June Bloomerism
BRB, harvesting material. In the meantime…go knicks!
I took my first dip in the pool yesterday, so I believe that gives me the authority to report on summer so far.
Off the top of my head, I think the 250th anniversary has rendered a little bit of prep in everyone’s step. Reds, whites and blues sprinkle the streets and Vogue’s latest cover story with Gracie Abrams. While the world is here, some have checked out for extended euro summers. Idyllic evenings abound. The season is simple yet embellished. Sharp harkens to the fluidity of a bell époque archway.
Finer details reign, smoothing out visuals and illuminating fractals of living that cannot be manufactured. Silhouettes abound with international influences from parachute bottoms to frog-clasped outer shells. Tarnished antiques provide soft landings for intimate vignettes.
The natural world also takes front and center as everything leans a little bit golden with lattice work shadows extending into dusk and the rising stock for loquaciously hot topics.
I don’t think there is a better way to show off these observations than through the very writers that transcribed them from a journal to our analog platform.
So, before we get to the sunset cruises of high summer, this taste report latches onto the beginning of the season.
Poolside
I was surprised that this was the first time the famed photographer’s eye popped up on my feed, but of course Hol was the one to navigate us to Slim Aaron’s association to summer. Beautiful people doing beautiful things in beautiful places. If that isn’t summer, I don’t know what is.
Classic with a Twist
Kate’s eye knows no bounds. Her posts are riddled with texture, pattern, eye candy throughlines and inspiration straight from the vine. This post celebrates pieces that will classically ground and pack a detailed punch this summer.
Casual Prep
Everybody loves a post from AFN. When you don’t want to deal with the fuss of a blouse or another white tee, the white sweatshirt offers a grounded note on comfort being key as we scour for a layer to throw on for a boat ride or a chilly New England al fresco evening.
Design Minded
Caitlin masterfully dips us into her design mind. As we know, from writing to drawing to design and fashion, the inspiration all stems from the same eye. To see a fuller picture behind the seedlings that nourish an entire world behind the clothes and accessories. Plus, who doesn’t love some indirect characterization.
Coquillage
Alarms went off in my head when to when I saw shell molded claw clips in TJ Maxx. How can seashells be reduced to… a trend. However, when I stumbled upon Colin King’s analysis of the phenomenon, I started to breath a little easier. Like stripes, the nautilus endured. Like petals, scallops open us up to the natural world. From master painters to vignette design, you’ll love this read.
An Anticipated Glass of Sancerre
CBE is my tastemaker. No but seriously, she taught me everything I know. Her eye is razor sharp yet melodiously feminine, no detail goes unturned when putting together a mood board, and her way with words make a post all the more richer. Before she even puts words on a page, the research has been signed, sealed and delivered. From resplendent rattan pieces to pattern envy, this piece is a whole june mood. This stack is the definition of thoughtfully sourced.
I Can Hear the Bells
The weddings aren’t getting any smaller, maybe more intimate, but the key is in the choices a couple makes to make the special event feel most reflective of their love. Zara from BRDL, a bridal stylist nestled in the english countryside, gives us her take on the wedding budget and what she would put energy towards instead of grasping onto every signature or of the moment trend that might make the meaning of the day get lost in the noise.
Nostalgia on Steroids
Christine Morrison gives us the best sartorial snapshot of the anklet through no other medium that the woven bracelets knotted dockside at summer camp. Salty from sailing class or frayed from a game of dodgeball, the origin of the anklet springs from an ornamented arts and crafts impulse.
Loving: Rose Adele’s skirted DIY is everything!! She details the whole process on Youtube!
Drawing: Seashells no less!
If you made it this far, here is some of what I’ve worn in June!
Cheers to more summer inspo!
